Boom is on a mission to level the playing field for the 100 million renters in the US by making housing more flexible, affordable, and attainable. We’re starting by building a payment app that enables renters to pay their rent how they want, on the schedule they define, and get rewarded in the process. We are led by a team of second-time founders and payments and real estate veterans, with funding led by the co-founders of Plaid and from the founders/alumni of companies like Cash App, Plastiq, and Olapic.
Opportunity
We are looking for a 0-to-1 product-oriented CTO / Founding Engineer to join our team and build and launch the beta version of our product. As our first in-house technical hire, you will take ownership of our nascent technical stack and help drive the vision of the company. What you'll do ****
- Own the design and implementation of our technical stack and data model, collaborating with the existing engineering team in the near term to transition ownership
- Manage the development, launch and maintenance of new products and features, working with the founders and designers
- Help establish the product development process
- Work within agile development to translate user stories and requirements into functioning applications and able to prioritize/think through must-have, nice-to-have, or irrelevant
- Write effective APIs and integrate with other systems and services
- Play an integral role in establishing the engineering team and company culture
What you'll need
- 3-7 years of experience as a full-stack engineer, ideally shipping mobile products in an early stage environment
- Experience with multiple modern front-end languages and libraries, and back-end languages. Our stack today is React Native and Ruby API
- Familiarity with databases (including PostgreSQL)
- Strong customer focus, including empathy for end user needs, such as those of low/moderate-income renters
- Ability to balance tradeoffs between technical needs and business outcomes
- Ability to operate in situations where information or requirements change constantly
- (bonus) Fintech and/or payments experience
